"Thus speaketh the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.” Jeremiah 30: 2
WHY I WROTE THIS NOVEL
I have always loved suspenseful stories. I can recall as a child, how I would sit in the dark and watch the Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Mysteries, or curl up with a good suspense novel. Therefore, it was not a surprise to me or my family that I would write suspense.
My novel, Bitter Roots is a God inspired Christian suspense story of love, betrayal and restoration. Bitter Roots was birthed out of the pain of my past. I began writing letters to God to express my anger and bitterness over my tragic childhood and the devastating failure of my seventeen-year marriage to a minister. I wrote God a letter every single day for two years, asking Him why I had to suffer so much pain. Then one day, I began to write and I heard a voice inside of me say, “Read what you have already written.”
I turned to page one, and began reading all of the letters. Afterwards, I said, ‘Wow, this would make a great book.’ And the voice said, "Write it." Jeremiah 30: 2 “Thus speaketh the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.”
It took five years for me to complete Bitter Roots. Most of that time was studying my craft, and working through my anger, hurt, bitterness, pain and fear. As I wrote, and re-wrote scenes, plots, dialogue, and developed my characters, I cried out to God. I went to counseling, and allowed God to take over my life. He healed and restored me. I learned how to forgive my past, and I became clearer in my writing.
Revelation12:11 states, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony…” I believe everyone has a story and only you can tell it. May I encourage you to come out of the shame of your past, and share the gift of your life experience with others.
Although this book is a work of fiction, I hope you find reconciliation, love, hope, forgiveness, and peace from the bitter roots of your past.
